I don't feel owned by you.

When Oh When Will This Movie Be Made??

So I hear there is to be a Weetzie Bat movie.
Weetzie is the heroine of the Weetzie Bat book series by my (favorite, favorite, favorite) author Francesca Lia Block. I am so beyond ready for this movie to be made. It's  been in the works forever it seems.
So, to tide me over until that golden day arrives...
Kimberley Gordon of www.ilovewildfox.com has perfectly executed a Weetzie Bat photo shoot
I'm almost a year late reporting on this shoot, but I'm not sorry.
I am soooooo excited to share it with you.
This shoot is styled exactly as I've always pictured Weetzie in her summer haze, jacaranda scented Shangri-LA. Well done Kim.
Well done.
Now if only I could magically insert myself in to this world...

PLUS bonus awesomeness...

Twins.

This story is amazing.
These twin brothers Julien and Adrien Reiser were born within seconds of each other, served side by side for 62 years as Friars in the Roman Catholic church and just last week, died within hours on one another on the same day at age 92.

I've always been preternaturally fascinated by genetics. My Father instilled in my brother and I a deep seeded interest in genealogy. Twins are common on both sides of my family tree. My Mom has twin sisters, my Dad has twin brothers and his Grandmother was a twin herself. I'm not sure if twins are whats in store for me someday but they are truly fascinating. I've always been intrigued by the stories of twin ESP. Twins that can feel each other's physical pain or emotional distress, I mean how interesting is that?!

Unfortunately because of the mystery and fascination surrounding twins they have been the subjects throughout history of horrible experiments and cruelty in the medical field. I recently came across the story of a town called Candido Godoi in Brazil.
Candido Godoi has long been suspected as the hiding place of infamous Nazi doctor, "Angel of Death" Josef Mengele. Soon after he began practicing and providing prenatatl care to the women in the community the rate of twins sky rocketed. One in five births in the town is now a set of twins, many of them having blonde hair and blue eyes.
Its clear to any informed onlooker that the doctor continued his Aryan genetics experiments after fleeing Nazi Germany following WW2. Here are some pictures of the residents of Candido Godoi.
Here is more on this bizarre story.

Silas Bjerregaard - You know me

Well I have a new crush.
This song was in some random jewelery commercial on tv tonight. I was instantly in love. You know that rare feeling you get when a song touches you unexpectedly? My heart sort of skipped and my soul stirred. I think it was the simplicity and sincerity. Like a quiet kiss. Sooo I looked it up and was pleasantly surprised at how adorable...and Danish the singer is. Hello Silas.

Oh, he's also in a band called Turbo Weekend. They have cute band pics.

Sad Endings...

Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald & F. Scott Fitzgerald

Zelda and Scott's marriage was plagued by ego, passion, alcoholism and mental illness. Without which it is arguable that they would have left such a mark on the world. Their love was legendary. Zelda with her talent, beauty and unflinching personality served as muse to almost all of Fitzgerald's literary heroines. They had one daughter Scottie, who was raised by nannies before being sent to boarding school. The two died within four years of each other on opposite sides of the country. Scott in his home in Los Angeles from a massive heart attack. Zelda in a fire while locked in a room awaiting electro-shock therapy treatment at the mental institution where she was being treated for schizophrenia.

Patti Smith & Robert Mapplethorpe

Patti and Robert were true soul mates in the purest sense of the term. Patti's amazing book Just Kids recalls with honesty and sweet nostalgia the remarkably beautiful story of their relationship. They acted as lover, muse, best friend, confidant, supporter, brother, sister, savior and catalyst in their decades long friendship. The two successfully navigated the 1970's New York City art world, becoming friends with the city's art, music and literary legends of the time. Theirs was a relationship that cannot be defined by a single term or label. Mapplethorpe came out of the closet while in a serious, long term romantic relationship with Smith. The revelation did not end the relationship. Instead it simply shifted its shape. They did not play by the rules of others. Their genuine love and admiration for one another was unshakable. Each, at different periods sacrificed their own ambitions and voluntarily worked as sole breadwinner in order to support the other's art. Mapplethorpe as a prostitute, Smith as a bookstore clerk. They inspired and pushed each other to advance creatively in profound ways. Without one another we may not have ever known their names. Mapplethorpe tragically lost his life to AIDS in 1989 after receiving fame in the art world for his provocative, beautiful and sometimes obscene photography. And Smith...well we know what became of her.
